On Wednesday, we left the anchorage behind Islamorada to head towards Marathon, still on the inside channel. We have gone through the skinniest, shallowest areas already so we are good with anywhere between 2.7' and 3.5' below our keel. Not comforting but better than 1.8 or no reading!
We had just gone under the 7 Mile Bridge through Moser Channel and Bella is wondering, "are we offshore? Do I need some special peanut butter and seasick med?".
She did fine though she did have the look.
😰😰😰😰
We will have to give her a special treat when we head to Key West in a few days.
Maybe Rosie too.
We had tried to secure a mooring ball or slip at Marathon but they have been booked and still no openings, so we anchored on the outside of the harbor with protection from East and N East winds. It was a little rolly but really only when the fast little boaters come by.
We decided to break the self imposed or truly a wind imposed quarantine again today (Thursday) to go into the harbor at Marathon.
We were shocked at how large the mooring field is!
The information on Waterway Guide says that 226 moorings are available. Then there are a large number of anchored boats... everywhere. Not in the mooring field but all around. We decided that we liked where we are.
This photo does not do it justice as to how many boats are in there.
I was really taking photos of the cormorants on the little boat!
We stopped at Burdine's Fuel dock and restaurant for lunch and enjoyed some really good burgers.
Sunset tonight just kept getting better
and better
and better!
Red sky at night, sailor's delight!
Miles to Marathon from Islamorada: 42
