2019 Cruise time!

Monday, Feb 4, 2019

It is finally time for our next Summer Breeze cruise. This is the one we have been planning on for a while and today was "launch day". We normally like to go to south Florida during most of Feb and March to escape that pollen season!

We left our home dock at 7:30 AM and it was a beautiful morning as the weather has warmed up a bit, no rain or wind. It is 3 1/2 miles from our house to the mouth of Toogoodoo Creek and Wadmalaw Sound. Just in case you needed to know that.

Today, our travels took us to Beaufort. We arrived at 3:15 and anchored behind mooring field by the city marina.

Travel miles today were a total of 50.2 including the little side trip we took when the captain on duty missed the turn while playing with his new electronics.

In January, Bruce finally got the new electronics installed and is pleased with the new Furuno chart plotters and radar. We can change the screen (touch screen) for just chart plotter or radar or split screen, plus a camera in the engine room.

It was a learning day as we traveled and he pushed all kinds of buttons. Rosie found our track, then lost our track on her iPad, Bruce missed a turn (a little bit) ....

Above photo is Monday's travel. I had it tracked on the plotter but pushed a button that deleted it, forever so I drew it in and took a photo of Tuesday's travel (the dotted line).
Anchorage in Beaufort (I missed the sunset on the 1st day!)

Tuesday, Feb 5

Tuesday, we slept in a bit and weighed anchor at 8:45 AM with another beautiful and calm day on the water. Port Royal Sound was like a bath tub! We traveled behind Hilton Head Island and Dafuskie Island and realized that we were going to catch the notorious low and shoaly part of the ICW heading south of of SC right at low tide, so we anchored on the Cooper River behind Dafuskie Island to wait for high tide early in the morning. After studying the chart a bit more and enjoying the calm weather, we plotted a course to take us offshore instead tomorrow. We will exit the ICW at Calibogue Inlet, meet up with the Tybee Island Roads offshore and re enter at Doboy Sound, GA.  That is our new plan tomorrow and if the seas are a bit rough, we can renter at the Savannah River and do all the GA winding ICW which does not look like fun.
