Feb 6-7 Days SC to GA

Day 4, Thursday Feb 7
Our morning view at our anchorage in Back River off of Doboy Sound. It is a great place to stay overnight with easy access to the ICW and offshore.

Woke up to a crisp 55 degrees outside as the sun was rising through the port windows so we missed a sunrise photo.😁We have been sleeping great! We are learning how to use the anchor alarm on 2 programs and one of them went off at about 5 am. We think I didn’t set the parameters right so more learning to do.

Today we traveled back on the ICW and cruised behind Wolf Island, Little St Simons Island, St Simons Island and Jekyll Island. We made it through the St Simons Inlet (which also leads to Brunswick, GA) without getting boarded by the Coast Guard this time!
Crossing St Simons Sound shrimper
Unfortunately, we were on a falling and mid-low tide when entering Jekyll River, which is not desirable. Jekyll River is notorious for its shallows and shoaling.  Even though it was recently dredged it was very shallow again in several areas.  We saw 1.8' on the depth sounder and then it went dark for a bit. We made it through to our anchor spot but not before getting hard aground. This is officially our first "hard aground". We managed to wiggle our way off plowing up lots of mud and went to our 2nd anchorage choice and did just fine there.
View of the bridge going to Jekyll Island, the marina and a couple other boats anchored close by.
We downed the dinghy and went for a for a long walk on the island and over to the Jekyll Island Marina to talk to the guys about being on the face dock there tomorrow for a day or two as a windy front is coming though. This will give us time to play on the island, go for long walks, go out for dinner, do a laundry room visit, fill up water tanks and just relax for a couple of days. That is our thought tonight.
We dropped anchor today at about 2:30
Our miles travels today: 36
Total miles traveled: 188.7

Day 3, Wednesday, Feb 6
Weighed anchor at 7:10 in a light fog. Went back out to Calibogue Sound to meet up with Tybee Roads outbound from the Savannah River.
Beautiful morning, foggy but crisp, warming up quickly with the rising sun.

Since we are traveling offshore today, I decided to try Bonine since Bella did so well with it that last summer. I took one before bedtime and again this morning. I did perfectly fine but the sea was perfectly calm so can't really say! Bella would have been happy on this offshore run!
Tybee Island Lighthouse

In the Tybee Roads Channel in and out of Savannah, playing along side the big boys!

I forgot to mention that Bella is staying home with Melissa and family for this trip. She’s had some senior health issues lately and felt that she would be happier on land this time.
We face time with her every day!
It was a very boring (thankfully) day offshore as it was pretty flat and a 10 hour and 40 min run. We read more of the radar/chart plotter manual, pushed more buttons and I still haven’t learned how not to erase our tracking! We even pulled out our mini stair master and resistance bands and got some exercise on the fly bridge.
Dropped anchor at 5:50, just in time for a successful offshore run celebration.
Miles today: 70 ish...?
