Weighed anchor at 6:45 again. We are poised to go right into the Albermarle Sound. The Reliefband was charged up and Bella got her peanut butter treat laced with Benadryl again.
Once again, it was calm 😄😄😄 but we were ready as the Albermarle Sound can be wicked. The Waterway Guide says that sometimes you have to “recover from the dusting you get crossing that unpredictable patch of water”.
Thankfully our only issues were dodging the crab pots in the Sound in the ICW channel !!!!!
We continue to see many osprey nests on top of the day beacons along the way. After crossing Albermarle Sound, we entered the North River, then into the ICW channel going by Coinjock and into the Currituck Sound. This stretch is pretty boring. It's called the Virginia Cut. You can also take another route to Norfolk, the Dismal Swamp which has 2 locks and lots of low bridges. Tomorrow, in our last 30 miles of the Atlantic ICW to travel, we have 1 lock and 7 low bridges and lots of boat traffic.
We are anchored in Blackwater Creek just about 1 mile north of the NC/VA border. We are accompanied in our creek by an interesting boat. The Dyad. After texting with a friend (Hi Toby!),he told us about it and we enjoyed reading up about her. Read here if you want.
It is so quiet here after all the small ski and fast boats were done going up the creek to the town of Blackwater.
No bear sightings yet BUT we read that bears will swim to your boat if you have trash on the outside and get in! We only have 30 miles to go to Norfolk but we have learned that this weekend is the Norfolk Harborfest with a gazillion of boats in the harbor and they are actually closing down part of the channel each day, so we are contemplating staying here at anchor until Monday or making it a bit closer to Norfolk but there aren't many ideal places to stay that we can see. Will decide tonight.
