In spite of our late night FREE entertainment provided by the military, we slept well with the generator and A/C running, we didn't hear a thing!
Weighed anchor by 8:30 to catch the 9:00 bridge opening about 3 miles away and managed to get there early with a small tug going through (they don't have to wait for scheduled times) and we were allowed to pass right after him before the scheduled time.

Today we traveled through Bogue Sound which is the ICW that runs behind the barrier island, Bogue Banks. This part of the ICW is occasionally closed to water traffic if the military is doing their training excersises but today we were free to pass. We spotted several personal carriers and small tanks along the marsh used for target practice.
Area along the ICW where the military play. The beach is just over there! |
Along the way, we passed the cities of Swansboro, Emerald Isle, Indian Beach, Atlantic Beach and up to Morehead City.

We had planned on stopping in Morehead City but decided to go the extra mile and visit Beaufort (Bo-fert) for a couple of days. We called and secured a slip at Homer Smith's Dock and Marina for 2 nights so we could enjoy the area a bit and "go to town". So this makes us going into a slip in a marina a third time for us! Getting easier to breathe each time or at least we are remembering to breathe now.
We traveled from New River to Beaufort today.
On Tuesday, the 3 (Bella) of us walked to the half mile to town to check it out and stretch our legs. Later in the evening we walked back and had dinner at The Spouter Inn and had some great grouper and Soft Shell Crab.

Beaufort is a little town that reminds us much of the other small coastal towns in SC, like Georgetown, Beaufort and Southport NC. Catering to tourists but also a major fishing community and lots of big boats.
The waterfront has a boardwalk with shops and restaurants. |
