Deltaville, VA to Norfolk, VA, Day 31, Summer Solstice

June 21 Summer Solstice
We weighed anchor and on our way by 7 AM, hoping for another calm day on the bay.
1-2’ seas predicted so Bella got a pb treat.
So far, calm as can be.
And it was! We see lots of cownose rays still (mating and birthing season in the Chesapeake right now) and
some bottle nose dolphins but not a lot over the entire trip.
We went by 7 of these tankers/freighters (large ships) just hovering in the shipping lanes. In the summer heat haze, they look like ghost ships floating by. Speaking of the summer heat haze, it was hot and humid again today. How can it be so hot this far north?

We entered into the busy Norfolk channel and are again in awe of the large naval fleet. Lots of tugs and barges and Coast Guard, marine police, pleasure craft... lots of boats.

Anchored at Hospital Point in Norfolk at 3:00. We hear that the 1st RR bridge we have to go under was hit by lightening last night and boats are stacking up so we aren't sure if we will be able to leave tomorrow or not. But! There is a cajun festival being set up right on shore where we are. Bruce is licking his lips for some N'awlins crawfish.
And for those of you that know Bella and her crab pot float "affliction", we have had our challenges along the way but tonight we managed to anchor a bit too close to one. She just can't leave it alone! It's going to be a long stay here!
